Kelp is a seaweed that grows in kelp forests deep in the ocean beds and is considered a superfood as it is abundant in iodine, calcium, magnesium, boron and other minerals. Kelp powder is one of the easiest and most cost effective foods to supplement with as it works to re-energize and remineralize the body.

The Weston A Price Foundation's Guide to Superfoods tell us that "Superfoods, as opposed to vitamins or supplements are foods that naturally concentrate important nutrients. Unlike dietary supplements, or vitamins taken in isolation, superfoods provide many nutrients that support each other and prevent the kind of imbalances that often occur when vitamins are taken singly. Like all sea vegetables, kelp provides minerals found in sea water, especially iodine and trace minerals that may be lacking in our depleted soils. For Westerners unaccustomed to including seaweeds in the diet, a small daily supplement of kelp in tablet or powdered form is a good idea, but don’t overdo excess iodine may also cause thyroid problems."
Dried Kelp is one of the most nutrient dense foods with levels of iodine measuring at 62,400mcg/100g. Kelp, like other seaweeds is rich in sodium alginate which works to protect the body from excess radiation and assists in removing it. If you would like to read more about Iodine, this article contains much valuable information.
Our suggested dosage of kelp powder is 1/32 of a teaspoon once per day - use 1/8tsp and fill 1/4 with kelp powder, and contains about 700mcg (0.7mg) of naturally occurring iodine.
Please note kelp contains trace elements and metals which are naturally occurring in the ocean in small amounts. Some people may need to adjust their dosage of kelp accordingly. As with any new food or supplement, it is suggested to start small and work up to the recommended dosage.
